The Ministry of Defense approached us with a challenge: using a serious game to find suitable candidates for the Air Combat Leadership course so that mer applications will come in on the werkenbijdefensie.nl website. With a true-to-life game experience, candidates can step into the shoes of experienced air combat leaders and get a realistic picture of the field.
In the Air Combat Command serious game The Air Combat Command serious game focuses on the defense of Dutch airspace. In cooperation with the Defense team, recruiters and air combat leaders, we have developed a realistic simulation. Within the serious game, players can experience various roles at the air base, ranging from airspace monitoring to intercepting suspicious aircraft. Players must identify unidentified aircraft as hostile, friendly or neutral, followed by selecting the appropriate action to protect the country, such as escort, intervention or downing. After the mission is completed, a score is calculated that can be shared on social media.
This air combat control game is available on the website of werkenbijdefensie.nl. Furthermore, the game is used by Defense recruiters on open days and schools, giving Defense an effective tool to reach the youth, offer workshops in a unique and interactive way and generate interest through a realistic image of the challenging world of air combat control and the crucial role it plays in the defense of our airspace.
When the player manages to defend Dutch airspace, he or she receives the following notification.
The player can view his or her score here.
The player must use the Air Combat Control serious game to defend Dutch airspace from possible threats and mark incoming aircraft as safe or unsafe.
Players can plot a mission to intercept potentially dangerous aircraft.
After players finish, they can send their score to the Defense Department, thereby making themselves available to the Department of Defense.
