Trimbos Drug Check-Up: Reflecting on drug use

The Drug Check-Up by Trimbos – the leading knowledge institute in the Netherlands in the field of mental health and substance use – is a modern digital tool that supports young people and young adults in self-reflection and awareness of their drug use.

For young people and young adults, it can sometimes be difficult to gain a clear understanding of their own drug use and its consequences. With the new Drug Check-Up, the Trimbos Institute offers a modern tool that stimulates awareness. This interactive module helps young people and young adults evaluate their drug use and guides them towards appropriate information and support.

Pioneer in mental health and addiction prevention

Since its establishment in 1996, the Trimbos Institute has proven itself as an authority in the field of mental health and substance use. With more than 225 experts, Trimbos works on impactful solutions to reduce the use of – and harm caused by – alcohol, drugs, and tobacco in the Netherlands.

Within programmes such as Drug and Alcohol Prevention (DAP), supported by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, Trimbos provides young people with reliable information about the use of alcohol and drugs.

Digitalisation and online presence play an important role in this. Through platforms such as ‘Drugs en Uitgaan’, Trimbos offers low-threshold information that reaches young people in an accessible and practical way. This demonstrates how Trimbos leverages modern technology to take knowledge, awareness, and prevention to a higher level. The Drug Check-Up fits perfectly within this mission.

A digital guide to awareness and self-reflection

Together with Trimbos, we developed the Drug Check-Up: an innovative, personalised module based on scientific insights that helps young people and young adults evaluate their drug use and guides them towards information about drugs and support for reducing or stopping use.

The interactive questionnaire covers essential themes such as frequency of use, consequences of use, coping strategies, and the (social) context of use. Users receive personalised insights that encourage self-reflection and direct them to appropriate information. The Drug Check-Up is fully integrated within 'Drugs en Uitgaan' and aligns seamlessly with Trimbos’ mission to actively promote prevention and more conscious behaviour.
