MediaMasters 2025 kicks off: a record number of primary school pupils compete for media literacy
06.11.2025
Today’s the day: the annual MediaMasters competition kicks off once again.
More than 270,000 primary school pupils from years 5 to 8 will compete for the title of ‘The Most Media-Savvy Class in the Netherlands’. With over 12,000 classes registered, the 15th edition breaks all previous records.
Learning about digital media through play
MediaMasters is an initiative by Netwerk Mediawijsheid, a collaboration of over a thousand organisations committed to promoting media literacy in the Netherlands. In this serious game, pupils aged 8 to 12 learn in a playful way how to use digital media smartly, safely, and responsibly. During the Week of Media Literacy, they explore themes such as privacy, fake news, online behaviour, AI, and digital balance.
Interactive media: serious game enhances feature film
For five days, pupils play an interactive serious game filled with media-literacy challenges. Each year, a feature film forms an integral part of the storyline - this year it’s the thrilling film Medoria, focusing on teamwork and finding balance between online and offline connection.
Last week, the film for the 2025 edition premiered at the Beeld & Geluid museum in Hilversum. As a long-term development partner of MediaMasters, we were present at the gala and premiere - an inspiring evening that showcased how interactive media can bring education to life.
Five years of MediaMasters x DTT: growth, innovation, and collaboration
2025 marks the fifth edition of MediaMasters for which DTT provides the complete technical development - from UI/UX design and programming to an infrastructure capable of supporting hundreds of thousands of simultaneous players. Once again, inclusivity and digital accessibility were key focuses within our collaboration. For the second year in a row, pupils from years 5 and 6 are joining years 7 and 8, and as in every edition, MediaMasters can be played with a sign language interpreter, sign language, or subtitles.
With great pride and enthusiasm, we work each year with Netwerk Mediawijsheid on a new and improved edition of MediaMasters, and we look forward to another successful Week of Media Literacy. We wish all participating classes the best of luck and plenty of fun in the competition for the title ‘The Most Media-Savvy Class in the Netherlands’!
